Other Meetings and Events

Grassroots Community, Environmental and Animal Rights Campaigns. Independent Media. Kids Club. Free advice on work issues and benefit claims. Free English lessons and support for migrants.


The club is used for various meetings and events when neither the bar or cafe are open.
  • Migrant English Project Mondays 1pm - 3.30pm
  • Kids Club Fridays 10am - 12 noon (Back Building)
  • Welfare Rights Advice Mondays 5pm - 6.15pm (NOTE CHANGE OF DAY)

• 10am onwards: Brighton Popular Education - day of free practical workshops. First Saturday of every month. All materials are provided. With cake and coffee.

• 7pm: Brighton Animal Action meeting. Every third Wed. All welcome.

• 7-9pm, Brighton Against Guantanamo. Every third Wed. All welcome.

• 8pm, Film: SchMOVIES presents “Injustice”. Infamous documentary on the struggles for justice by the families of black people that have died at the hands of police officers. Between 1969 and 1999 over one thousand people died in police custody in England. Not one police officer has been convicted for any of these deaths. The police attempted to censor the film and stop it being shown and it is still banned on TV.



Mon 25th

• 7pm: Cowley Bookshop talk - Gabriel Kuhn talks about his new book 'Sober Living for the Revolution: Hardcore Punk, Straight Edge and Radical Politics'. Free.


Tue 26th

• TIME TBC: Cowley Bookshop Talk - a drift with Stevphen Shukaitis (Autonomedia editor and lecturer at the University of Essex) 










Regular Events


Migrant English Project:  Every Monday afternoon. Free English lessons and drop-in conversation for asylum seekers and refugees. Information, support and advice. Children welcome.

Welfare Rights Advice:  On Mondays there is welfare rights advice 5pm - 6.15pm. Free and confidential advice on issues to do with claiming benefits, housing and work issues.

Cowley Kids Club: Baby/toddler sessions with activities, tea and coffee and snacks, and loads of fun! Fridays 10-12am, in the Cowley Meeting House (entrance round the back). Space is limited so turn up early!

Cowley Meeting House: room for hire! For: meetings, classes, arts projects, alternative therapies, children's groups and parties, etc. Room size 6m x 3.5m, use of patio garden and tea making facilities, on site cafe Tues-Fri 12-4pm, wheelchair accessible. Cost: Free/donation for grassroots political campaign groups' meetings and use, minimum £5 per hour for other groups with rates negotiable for commercial use.
